Shantou University (STU) is a comprehensive public university situated at the Guangdong region of China’s southeast coastline. Departments and Courses offered
The MBBS program at SUMC is an effective integration of basic medical science with advanced clinical training. The five-year curriculum includes basic courses in the first year, system-based basic and clinical courses, skill training courses and elective courses in the second and third years, and clinical courses in the fourth year. Clinical internship and elective courses are offered in the fifth year. The course is taught in English and Chinese by a qualified faculty with renowned international texts and publications used as references.
The tuition fee amounts to RMB 52,000 per annum with living and accommodation costs close to RMB 2,000 per month. Students will also be required to buy textbooks and other study materials. To assist in paying their expenses, students may even apply for the Guangdong Government International Student Scholarship.
SUMC now has two campuses. The old medical campus is at the heart of Shantou city and a more modern campus within the main campus of Shantou University. The new campus is designed by one of the world’s most prestigious architectural firm – Herzog de Meuron – and is inspired by the human brain stem. This campus is intended to allow for a fully integrated multidisciplinary life sciences center.

The deadline for applications for the MBBS course from SUMC is mid-July, with classes commencing in September. Applications can be submitted online after which the university will send a confirmation and admission letter in four to six after checking the eligibility criteria.
Some basic requirements to qualify for the program include, having a valid passport, English proficiency, sound physical and mental health, and a clean criminal record. The university follows all the quality standards laid down by China’s Ministry of Education.
