Department and Courses offered
KMU is a qualified institute complying with China’s Ministry of Education guidelines and teaches all its courses in English without Chinese proficiency requirements. The university arranges internships in the final year of the course, which ends in June with a convocation ceremony. After this, graduates are eligible to take up medical licensing examinations by councils like the Medical Council of India (MCI) as the program is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The basic tuition fee is RMB 30,000 per annum for MBBS students. Accommodation and other fees are extra; however, living expenses are very low. The Qualified MBBS (Clinical Medicine, English Medium) students, except students who receive the Yunnan Government Scholarship, are eligible to apply for Kunming Medical University Scholarship: 3% students get 8,000 RMB/year, 5% students get 5,000 RMB/year, and 12% students get 3,000 RMB/year. Students from Southeast Asian and South Asian countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, are eligible to apply for Yunnan Government Scholarship in KMU from February to April every year.
Application procedures for the six-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program taught in English begin in March. The admission process ends in June and the program begins in October. The process is done online and it takes a few weeks for the application to get processed by the university. Once the admission offer letter is released by the university, the applicant must accept the offer within two weeks (failing which the application will be deemed canceled). The applicant can then apply for a visa.
Basic requirements to be fulfilled by the candidate before applying to the university include higher secondary education (12th) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with minimum score requirements and English proficiency. Applicants should be in good health and abide by the laws and regulations of the university. The applicant should also be under the age of 25.
