The syllabus for NEET UG examination is integrated and common for all candidates, irrespective of the board of higher secondary education they have studied from. This syllabus is prescribed by the Medical CounciI of India (MCI) for NEET UG and NEET UG PG. It is also available at www.mciindia.org. Due to the integrated and common syllabus, the burden on aspirants has fairly reduced as students earlier had to prepare a vast syllabus for the various medical entrance examinations. The integrated and common syllabus also provides uniformity in the evaluation process. It checks the competency level of candidates all across India based on the same parameters. The NEET examination is conducted in ten regional languages—Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu to facilitate candidates who have completed their higher secondary education in vernacular medium. In NEET 2018, around 80% of candidates preferred writing in English, 11% in Hindi, 4.31% chose to write it in Gujarati, 3% wrote in Bengali and 1.86% in Tamil. Candidates opting for regional languages are provided with a Bilingual Test Booklet in the selected regional language and English.
The NEET UG syllabus is prepared after reviewing various syllabi maintained in state boards as well as those prepared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council Board of School Education (COBSE), and the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). It is strictly based on the topics covered in class XI and class XII across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
