The Huge Disparity in the MBBS Fee Structure between Government and Private Colleges

The medical profession is one of the most coveted occupations in the world. Thousands of students seek entry to medical colleges after their high school to become top-class medical professionals. However, the popularity of government medical colleges is way more than that of private medical colleges. The reason for the same is that the fee-structure of government medical colleges is much less as compared to private colleges.

The difference in fee structure between the government and private medical colleges is very high. Many times students who do not get admission into government medical colleges decide to leave the medical stream since they are not able to afford the fees of a private medical college.

Reasons for the Difference in Fee Structure of Government and Private Medical Colleges

Private Colleges are expensive due to the following reasons:

  • Private Colleges do not receive government funding for infrastructure as opposed to government colleges.
  • The maintenance cost of private medical colleges is higher than government medical colleges
  • Private medical colleges are driven by a profit motive while this is not the case in government medical colleges.
  • Private medical colleges provide lavish facilities of a hostel and mess.

Fee Structure for MBBS

Medical Education is quite expensive. However, the government colleges charge relatively less as compared to private medical colleges. But then, to get into a government college, one has to clear the highly competitive entrance test.

Loan for Medical Studies

Many times students get disheartened when they are not able to get admission into a government medical college as they are not able to afford a private medical college. However, if a student is passionate about pursuing MBBS, a study loan can be obtained. There are many banks and lending institutions that provide the facility of education loan. This facility can be availed by students who are unable to afford the fees of a private medical college.

MBBS remains one of the most coveted degrees in India. However, pursuing the same from a private college is expensive as compared to a government college. In India, government colleges charge minimal fees, but the private ones have exorbitant charges. Scholarships and education loans are way out for those students who cannot afford medical studies.
