Tips for Parents

It is difficult for parents to stand by and see their child going through the challenges of entrance exams like NEET UG. Exams like this take a toll on the students, and they get into overdoses of caffeine, late-night sessions, unhealthy eating habits, and extreme levels of stress.

This is where parents play a vital role in supporting their child during this phase and also help their child to achieve a good rank in exams like NEET UG. Interviewing parents of NEET UG toppers developed a list of ways parents can help their child succeed.

  • Parents should be aware of the assignments and examinations their child is attempting and also check the progress. It is their responsibility to speak to their child and understand if they feel prepared for the exams or not. They should encourage their child to prepare for the national level examinations like NEET UG. Parents should bring up conversations about the study timeline and course material so that the child gets motivated.
  • Good sleep and a nutritious meal are the secret of many toppers. Parents should incorporate these habits in the child so that the child is healthy and has a sharp memory. Parents should encourage their children to follow healthier study and lifestyle habits. Ask them to avoid late-night activities during preparation for the examination, and make sure that their children eat healthy food items rich in fiber, iron, and proteins. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will make the child stay fit and energized all through the day and also help to stay focused while studying.
  • The key elements to succeed in NEET UG are positivity and confidence. Parents should help their child to believe in their abilities by appreciating the hard work they put for the NEET exam. It is also essential for parents to make their children understand that a low score does not mean failure, and there are many other opportunities to achieve a successful career. Even after the exams, parents should equally encourage their child and support them. They should always acknowledge their hard work and efforts. It helps in reducing the child’s stress during this period. Parents need to realize that students put much burden on themselves to make their parents happy.
  • Mock tests follow two important things – firstly, they are set as per the actual NEET UG examination pattern, and secondly, the time allotted to solve the questions is the same as that of a real NEET exam. It is like appearing for a NEET UG exam but like a rehearsal. Solving mock question papers repeatedly will be good practice for your child, and he/she will understand the pattern of the exam very well. It also increases their comfort level for the examination. Parents should make their child solve these mock tests as the entire course material is covered and helps the students gain a clear idea about the various sections in the NEET exam.
  • Parents should make sure that their child sincerely follows a proper study plan. The study plan should clearly mention the duration of time assigned to a topic and also define a precise methodology for dealing with the preparation and planning related to each subject. Students should set a goal, and topics should be prioritized based on the difficulty level.

Unconditional support is required from the parents, which will help him/her to succeed in the national level competitive exams like NEET UG. Parents should be the ideal support system for their child.
